Right Fit, Real Value: How Temple Helped Me Maximize NIL

By Jackson Pruitt, Temple University Football

Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, sports were always at the center of my life. I tried everything: hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball, even karate-but football is where I found my true passion.

High school was the turning point. As I focused more on football, opportunities started to come my way. Offers from top programs rolled in, but it was Temple University that stood out. For me, education was always the top priority. I wanted a school that would help me develop both as a player and as a person, and Temple’s commitment to my growth-on and off the field-made it the perfect fit.

In an era where loyalty is tougher to come by, I wanted to stay at a school that was going to invest in me as a person as much as a player. That sense of mutual commitment was important to me, and I found it at Temple.

The evolving landscape of college sports, especially around Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), made my decision even more important. I wanted a program that aligned with my values and gave me a platform to earn my own opportunities. At Temple, I’ve been able to engage in genuine NIL partnerships-promoting brands, building my network, and learning about the business side of sports, not just chasing quick pay-for-play deals.
Choosing Temple also meant stepping outside my comfort zone. Philadelphia is a new city, but coming from Detroit, I was ready for the challenge. Navigating North Philly has taught me a lot about resilience and adapting to new environments. The coaching staff here emphasizes hard work and leadership, values I bring to both the classroom and the field.

Redshirting my first year gave me the time to focus on my development. I’ve learned to balance academics and athletics, thanks to the support from professors and advisors who understand the demands on college athletes. The resources at Temple have helped me grow as a leader and set high standards for myself.

I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come with NIL. It’s allowed me to connect with brands and share my story, while staying true to authentic partnerships. My dream is to play in the NFL, but I also want to give back-helping unify and improve the college football landscape for future athletes.

Temple has been everything I hoped for -a place where I can pursue my NFL dreams, get a great education, and grow as a person. With every game and every practice, I’m reminded of the values that brought me here: education, development, and integrity. I’m excited to continue this journey and see where it leads.
